Black Wattle – Acacia mearnsii – Invasive Alien Plant [IAP]

Evergreen tree up to 15 m in height with slightly hairy young branches with golden growth tips.

Black wattle invades grasslands, forests, roadsides and watercourses, successfully competing with and replacing indigenous vegetation.

Seeds of Black wattle remain viable for 50 years!

Control by pulling out seedlings and saplings. Paint stumps with 3% Garlon.

This is a Category 2 IAP which means it may only be grown under controlled circumstances or with a permit.
